Meet
Kristy
Harris

We
are pleased to introduce
Kristy Harris
from our
Dallas
office. She was hired in 2003 as a P&B Underwriter Trainee under the tutelage
of Cindy Hoskins. She learned quickly and was soon promoted to an Underwriter. It
was apparent that she had "the right stuff" and in 2006, Kristy was promoted to
a Corporate Underwriter as our Corporate Department started to grow.
Kristy
is a graduate of
Embry Riddle Aeronautical
University
where she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Management. She is
currently working on her Private pilots license. After graduating from ERAU, Kristy
was introduced to the exciting world of avaition insurance by working for a large
general aviation insurance broker in
Texas
.
Being
a
Florida
native, Kristy is a big Florida Gators fan so football season is an exciting time
in the
Dallas
office. We would like to mention how proud we are of her husband Andre who just
completed helicopter training in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is now checked out in
the Apache helicopter. Whooo Rah!

What Every Agent Should Know About Licensing
|
|
|
Licensing
is probably one of the most misunderstood areas of agency operations. Let's face
it, it is bureaucratic, it can be complicated and costs money. However, the consequences
of not being properly licensed during a state compliance audit can be very expensive
in fines and penalties.
Some
states require that an agency as well as the agent be licensed as an insurance entity and registered as a foreign corporation. The reciprocity and uniformity in the National
Association of Insurance Commissioners Producer Licensing Model act is not always
followed.
It
gets even more complicated when an agency has multiple locations in different states.
The home office may hold an agency non-resident license in a particular state but
the producer in the satellite office must be licensed as well. Furthermore, in some
states the satellite office must also have an agency license if they are writing
the business through the satellite office. Confused?
We
are taking the confusion out of agency licensing. To assist our agents and brokers,
we now have a Compliance Coordinator, Tamara Aiken, and her assistant, Chrissie
Boone who will assist you with your licensing questions and problems. We can also
recommend two web sites that will assist you with licensing; National Association
of Insurance Commissioners (www.naic.com).
A good source for information about the insurance industry and links to state insurance
departments. National Insurance Producer Registry (www.nipr.com).
This is a great web site for easy electronic licensing for both initial and
renewal resident and non resident licenses

Licensing Updates
|
|
|
If
you hold an insurance license in these states, take note of the recent changes regarding
CE requirements:
South
Carolina
- Completion by May 1, 2008 All insurance producers must now complete a 3-hour ethics
course in addition to the required 24 CE credits.
Connecticut
- Effective August 1, 2007 All P&C and Personal Lines licensees must complete
a one-time 3-credit course on Federal Flood requirements as part of their total
CE requirement.
New
Jersey
- Effective January 2007 Specific requirements for line of authority (life, variable,
accident health or sickness, property, casualty, personal
lines and surplus lines)
were eliminated this year. (This means that except for the ethics requirement, license
holders may take as many or as few title courses as they wish.)
